Goods or cargo carried by truck, train, ship, or aircraft is called freight. Freight transport is originally referred to transport by sea, but nowadays it refers to transport by land or air as well. There is another word that is used for freight transport and it is "Logistics". The term of logistics is used most of the times in military environment that is the same as freight transport. Land or Ground shipping
Land or "ground" shipping means transport of goods or cargo by train or truck. Ground transport is required in air and sea shipments, because the cargo should be transported from its place of origin to the airport or seaport. Land shipping is much expensive than sea shipping in most of the times because of limitations and conditions of the roads in different countries.
Shipping by Sea / Ocean
High volume of cargo shipping is done by actual ships. Sea shipping is the lifeblood of the world economy and more than 70% of goods and cargo in international trade are carried by sea. Ships used in transporting if goods are huge ships.
Air transportation is one of the most important modes of the world’s transportation system. In this mode of transportation the cargo is transported by air in specialized cargo aircraft. Air freight or air transport is the fastest mode of freight transport, but also the most expensive for long distance.
Intermodal freight transport is the transport of the freight or cargo by multiple modes of transportation (rail, ship, and truck). Shipping containers used in intermodal freight transport are the kinds of containers that can be easily transferred between ship, rail and truck.
